  1. My main concern over any farming is that the inability of farm workers to unionize. I think recently they got this right in Canada, but I don’t know to what extent they are able to exercise it (i.e. I don’t know whether the actual conditions on the ground are amenable to union-forming).

    I do know that a lot of farm workers work long hours with no overtime and less breaks than regular workers enjoy, often in fields with no shade and no bathroom. For me, a certification that the farm workers were treated like humans would be just as important as a certification that the food was being grown in an ecologically sustainable way.
